The Art & Science of Peer-to-Peer and Crowdfunding: Lessons from Across the Pond and Around the World

It’s gone by many names…friends asking friends, peer-to-peer, and now volunteer-led crowdfunding…but one fact remains: people are more likely to donate online to someone they know. In Canada many of the largest P2P events are in decline, while we see an explosion of 3rd party campaigns which may or may not involve a registered charity. One of the largest platforms in North America is GoFundMe, which is a private company. And dare we talk about Facebook fundraising? One of the biggest fears of any fundraising team is that the new campaign they’re planning to launch is just like everyone else’s! The same ideas (everyone wants another Ice Bucket Challenge) and the same technology tools. So how can a campaign stand out? This presentation will provide case-studies of peer-to-peer and crowdfunding campaigns from Australia and the UK, and how some of those campaigns worked to double their online income.
